The Big Event

For the first time in our 10-year history, Women For Hire opened its New York career expo to both women and men. The event was attended by 5,103 jobseekers, many of whom braved the cold weather for up to two hours to connect with 40 employers, attend free seminars, benefit from resume critiquing and network with one another. These aren't just numbers; these are mothers and fathers, daughters and sons, wives and husbands, friends and former colleagues. Despite the huge crowds, there was incredible optimism and hope among the attendees.

The event also generated unsolicited media coverage around the world. Every local TV station in New York, along with the Associated Press plus French, Asian and Dutch press outlets, showed up to capture the spirit of workers in the midst of this economic crisis.

Everyone knows about long lines at job fairs, but in the coming weeks and months we're also going to showcase the successes that result.
