Women For Hire Foundation

Since 1999 Women For Hire’s core services have successfully targeted college-educated, professional women, yet we've also met many wonderful women at the other end of the spectrum who are just as eager to tap into our expertise. We formed the Women For Hire Foundation to specifically serve low-income, disadvantaged women by helping them to realize their career potential.

Most of these women are single mothers with the sole financial responsibility of raising their families. Some come to us when divorce necessitates getting back into the workforce. Many seek our counsel after long-term unemployment caused by eldercare responsibilities or other physical and emotional challenges.

Access to training and a hand up could mean the difference between minimum wage versus a livable wage, inconsistent hours versus a steady schedule, and no benefits versus health insurance and paid time-off.

From traveling to areas of crisis—as we did in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina or visiting a women's prison as we did at the Federal Corrections Institution in Danbury, Connecticut—to connecting via email, phone and face-to-face with individuals in need of personalized assistance, the Women For Hire Foundation offers guidance, information and inspiration to support women in skills training and job placement at pivotal moments.

Our staff has witnessed firsthand the beautiful bounce in her step as a woman returns to work and gets a paycheck for her efforts after a prolonged period of unemployment. There’s that certain smile of confidence and contentment that only comes from being on a path to financial independence.

As a 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization, the Women For Hire Foundation relies on the support of institutions and individuals that value the benefit of our work. With your help, we can do great things to empower women to achieve their career best.

“Mothers are 44 percent less likely to be hired than non-mothers who have the same resume, experience and qualifications; and mothers are offered significantly lower starting pay.”
