The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago is the world's largest wastewater treatment agency. The District protects the shoreline of Lake Michigan and keeps the Chicago River and its interior waterways free from pollution. The District maintains and operates seven treatment plants throughout Cook County and daily treats almost two billion gallons of wastewater.
