About

I founded The Work Strategies Company in 1994. With over eighteen years experience in personal change processes, leadership development, career management consultation and executive coaching, I still believe that every client needs a customized approach to career transition and reclaiming personal power at work.

There are many facets to the process of career management and leadership coaching. I work with each individual to determine the areas of focus that make sense for their particular situation. Some people choose only to work on isolated issues or goals, while others choose to take a more strategic approach to work and career.

I am recognized for my ability to identify and reshape language and communication obstacles that are often very subtle, but which have a tremendous impact on an individual's ability to market themselves, establish credibility as a leader and create positive change. These are not linear processes – there are many levels to work through. This journey requires persistence, self-awareness and resilience.

Previously working in various corporations, I know what the corporate world is like. I worked within very large companies and subsequently with a boutique management consulting firm for six years. I have worked with clients from a broad spectrum of industries including Financial Services, Pharmaceuticals, Healthcare, High Tech, Publishing, Higher Education, Marketing and Consulting.

Holding a Masters of Science degree in Training and Organizational Development, I completed undergraduate and post graduate work in psychology in New York at Stony Brook University. Although not a proponent of massive psychological testing, I am a certified administrator of the Myers Briggs Type Indicator and use this and other tools when it makes sense. I have taught graduate courses in Gender Issues and Leadership and Change.

Assets

I specialize in working with women who are in a mid-life career transition and ready to forge their way to more meaningful work. Women who need to reclaim their personal power are usually my favorite clients. I also work extensively with MBA graduates needing help to launch their career or rethinking their path.

My corporate work is centered on individual leadership development, particularly with clients who are having trouble assimilating into the culture of their current organization, or women who are struggling to build their personal power and leadership brand. Since I offer Saturday hours along with weekday meetings, very busy people can find the time to do something for their own development in a confidential and supportive environment – either over the phone or in person.

Rave Reviews

“Up until a few years ago, I would have characterized my career as a very successful one. For various reasons, my confidence was at a low point. I found it very difficult to gain momentum. Terry helped me identify the essential criteria necessary for me to be successful and happy. Although my stubborn nature resisted at first, she pushed me to change how I looked at things, and everything shifted. I actually love going to work now.

“Working with Terry gave me a totally new perspective on how I was approaching my job search, and what I needed to change. I felt more powerful and was interacting with people in an entirely different way … as a leader and colleague instead of a job-seeker. The end result speaks for itself.”
- CSO, Biotech Start-up Company, Boston, MA

“When Terry videotaped our mock interview session, I nearly fell off my chair when I saw it. I had no idea my responses were so unfocused. I assumed I had great interviewing skills (I didn’t) – I realized I wasn’t doing myself justice. We worked on polishing my responses, and within six weeks I landed a job in the industry I was targeting.”
- Director of Sales, Worldwide Luxury Resorts, New York, NY

“When the CEO at my firm suggested I meet with an executive coach, I didn’t like the idea. But I knew I was in trouble. I was letting my temper get the best of me and things were getting worse. I agreed to give coaching a try. Terry became a trusted ally for me and helped me look at situations objectively. Even when pressed by the CEO to share our conversations – she wouldn’t betray my confidence. I am pleased to say that I am still at the same firm and thriving.”
