The Department of State is the face of America to the world. The mission of the Department's Bureau of Diplomatic Security is to provide a safe, secure environment for the conduct of US foreign policy. We accomplish that through Foreign Service Specialists: Security Engineering Officers, Special Agents, Diplomatic Couriers, and Security Technicians. U.S. Department of State Diplomatic Security Specialists are often assigned to live and work overseas based in U.S. embassies or Consulates. They provide a range of security services to accomplish the protection of U.S. embassy employees, facilities, and information.
Job Titles and Descriptions:
Security Engineering Officers: conduct technical security assessments, technical surveillance countermeasures, analyze technical security risks as well as design, install and maintain security technology and infrastructure.
Special Agents: manage embassy security programs, provide protective security, conduct a variety of investigations, and can make arrests.
Security Technical Specialists: assist our Security Engineers with security systems, including CCTVs, various alarm and intrusion detection systems, locking devices, access control and denial systems.
